WHITE COUNTY WATER AUTHORITY – JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Plant Operator (Class III)
JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt / Non-Supervisory
DEPARTMENT: Distribution/Treatment Department
SUPERVISOR: Water Treatment Plant Manager
GENERAL NATURE OF WORK
This position is responsible for producing high quality, potable water by monitoring the treatment process in accordance with the EPA and EPD standards and by keeping water storage tanks correct operating levels in order to maintain system pressure. This water treatment plant operates seven (7) days a week.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Monitors and adjust the distribution system to meet demand
Inspects plant grounds, check gauges, readings, flow levels, pumps, motors, and valves, etc. to make sure they are in proper working order
Take samples and test chemical levels in the basing on an hourly basis, performs series of daily laboratory analyses
Maintains the effectiveness of water filters by inspection and cleaning as needed
Adjust chemical feeder
Monitors the flow throughout the plant to ensure water quality
Undertakes minor repairs and maintenance of plant equipment
Makes changes to equipment and fixes breakdowns as they occur
Maintains log book containing laboratory analysis results, distribution system changes, filter backwash readings, process control changes, chemical inventory, document all problems and complaints
Promote a positive image of White County Water Authority
Performs related duties as required
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to change chemicals
Ability to read rates of flow
Ability to recommend replacement of depreciated equipment
Ability to work day or night shift; weekends and holidays
DESIRABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Standard High School or GED diploma, with 3 years experience working in water treatment.
Must have a valid Driver License and Georgia Distribution or Class III water treatment system operator license.
